13 Irish pubs that give the Michelin Pub of the Year a run for its money
LAST WEEK, MICHELIN Guide announced named The Butcher’s Arms in Eldersfield as the Michelin Pub of the Year 2016.
The Guardian reports that the 16th century pub was named the best pub in the UK and Ireland and praised for being a “laid-back home from home”.
Sure, it might serve gourmet food and it might be really old and quaint, but is it really better than our Irish pubs?
We think not.
1. Keep your mini oxtail pies — the true measure of a pub is the quality of its ham and cheese toasties

2. Can you do a spot of hardware shopping in The Butcher’s Arms like you can in Foxy John’s?
Didn’t think so.

3. Do the staff of The Butcher’s Arms wear lab coats?
Because they most certainly do in Morrissey’s, Abbeyleix.

4. You think The Butcher’s Arms is old because it dates from the 16th century? Sean’s Bar, Athlone, dates from 900 AD and is the oldest pub in Europe
So put that in your pipe and smoke it.
